Apparently, the "tapes were just the beginning."
The wait for a second season of 13 Reasons Why is almost over, as Netflix finally revealed the premiere date for their wildly popular and controversial series; it will be available to stream on Netflix starting May 18. Based on the Jay Asher novel by the same name, 13RW, tells the story of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who recounts the events leading up to her death by suicide through an unlikely vehicle: pre-recorded tapes. The first season was narrated by Hannah, who dies in the final thirteenth episode, and left fans wondering what the heck a season 2 would look like now that our heroine was gone. And while there still is a lot of mystery around the premise of the second season following the first teaser trailer, we know one thing for sure: Polaroids are the new tapes.

In the teaser video shared last night, Polaroids are all over intense images of the main cast. The snapshots appear to reveal the behind-the-scenes story of the character, proving that there is more going on behind someone's smile, as we learned with Hannah in season 1. For example, we see Ms. Baker (Kate Walsh) sitting on a couch, when a Polaroid floats by to reveal that she has been crying and that there will be moving signs stored in their house. We also see Jessica (Alisha Boe), smiling for a selfie, before a Polaroid floats by to reveal a stream of tears running down her face. We see also Tony (Christian Navarro), Mr. Porter (Derek Luke), Bryce (Justin Prentice), Clay (Dylan Minnette), and even Hannah appearing via the instant photographs.
Fans of the show are already predicting the show's new tagline, riffing off season 1's "Welcome to your tape" opening monologue.
It's unclear who the source of these Polaroids are, but we do know that one character has a knack for photography: Tyler (Devin Druid). There's already a theory that he is the new narrator and the one dishing out these ominous photographs to his classmates in the aftermath of Hannah's death, and a school-wide call for justice.
Check out the full teaser below. And welcome to your Polaroid, I guess.
