27 Rad Street-Style Snaps From L.A.'s Rose Bowl Flea Market

The trick to scoring a deal at the Rose Bowl Flea? Get there first. The early shopping is so valuable, in fact, that it'll even cost you more: It's $8 to get in after 9 a.m. (like any normal, sleep-loving human being would). But, it's $10 if you come by 8 a.m. (doable, we suppose) and $15 if you arrive around 7 a.m. (okay, that's getting early). And, if you want in from 5 to 7 a.m. (ouch!), that'll be $20.

The only problem with the early bird getting the worm? Yoga pants and a hoodie aren't exactly going to cut it, sartorially, once the sun comes up and the hordes of chic shoppers start strolling in. We stuck around from dawn till close last weekend to get the scoop on what the most stylish market-goers are wearing. Our advice for next month? Rise early, copy one of these looks, and get that worm while feelin' fresh — even though we all know you didn't shower.

The Rose Bowl Flea Market goes down on the second Sunday of every month in Pasadena, so mark your calendars and get all additional information you need on their website.

Weekend beauty motto: "A clean face and lots of sunscreen."

Favorite post-flea brunch spot: "Kitchen Mouse in Highland Park. Super-delicious food! My fave dishes are the buffalo bowl and their open-face Reuben sandwich, plus a dandelion latte or chai."

Leigh proves that a few basics we all have in our closet — a plain, white blouse, classic-rinse denim, and flat slides — can be elevated with on-trend accessories and a vibrant red lippie. The pint-size pooch doesn't hurt, either.

Best flea market buy to date: "A stack of battered, old French magazines."

Tricks for shopping the Rose Bowl Flea: "Bring a truck! I didn’t, and now I feel like I missed out on a ton of sweet furniture. I’ve been on the lookout for a couple of really well-crafted, wooden bench seats for my dining room, and I saw so many I should have bought."

Weekend beauty motto: "Tinted moisturizer with SPF, mascara, and a little lip color. At the moment, I’m loving the Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick Duo in Fig & Date."

Favorite post-flea brunch spot: "I don’t really like to go anywhere that is overcrowded, so I always go to brunch early. I actually just tried Lincoln in Pasadena a few weekends ago, and it was seriously good. I had a breakfast bowl and grabbed a croissant on the way out because I am an absolute carboholic."

What's your secret to putting together a cool weekend look? "Trying something new! What's your secret to putting together a cool weekend look? "Comfort is key. My uniform is some sort of army-green military pant, sneakers or sandals (depending on the weather), and a super-soft T-shirt. And, there has to be some kind of bright color in the mix, or big earrings!"

Name: Jenni Williams (left) and Rosemary Warren (right)
Job: Co-Owners, Market Vintage

Williams is wearing a vintage Orvis denim duster and Carole Little pants with a cotton top.

Best flea market buy to date: "An L.A. Occidental College yearbook from 1959. The images of classmates and their style of the time was right on the edge between conservative and casual, moving towards a more bohemian and rock-'n'-roll look. I love vernacular photography, and this was an entire book of that from a particular place and time." —Williams

Tricks for shopping the Rose Bowl Flea: "Get there early to avoid the heat and score some deals, but take your time because it can be overwhelming with the amount of vendors. Once you get past the entrance, start making your way back to the orange section, where you'll find amazing antiques, furniture pieces, textiles, and art. Then, hurry up to the white section (where I am) and score some of the best vintage fashions. Most vendors are permanent, so it'll be easy to find them the next time you come." —Williams

What's your secret to putting together a cool weekend look? "I tend to stick with what I know looks best on me and wear clothing that enhances my body, mainly casual basics topped off with a killer accessory, like a leather, tooled clutch, woven sandals, or an antique duster." —Williams

Name: Eliza Brownlie
Job: Writer/Director

Brownlie is wearing vintage cut-offs and a cotton wrap tee.

Best flea market buy to date: "I recently scored a very cool, vintage denim dress that could totally pass as a Marques'Almeida piece. Oh, and a Yashica electro 35mm camera from my favorite camera vendor!"

Tricks for shopping the Rose Bowl Flea: "The Rose Bowl is pretty massive! It can be a little overwhelming if you just show up without a plan of attack. I like to tell myself I’m going to limit my browsing to just the vintage-clothing racks or the furniture section, but in reality, I tend to lose all self-control and end up leaving with more jewelry than I will ever have the time to wear. In short, get there early, as there is lots to be tempted by."

Weekend beauty motto: "WWBJD: What Would Bianca Jagger Do?"

Favorite post-flea brunch spot: "On special occasions, I like to go to La Poubelle in Hollywood. It’s this lovely little French restaurant that looks like they took a café from Paris and dropped it off on Franklin Avenue. It’s a great spot for celebrity sightings, or, even more fascinating, catching people who are still in their party dresses from the night before! If you’re feeling particularly thirsty, the bottomless mimosas (at only $15) are a must."

Best flea market buy to date: "I bought them right here while my photo was being taken: A set of six vintage, high-back, powder-coated patio chairs that swivel. I had to shoo a lady from Texas away while I tried to make my deal."

Tricks for shopping the Rose Bowl Flea: "I have three: Know what you're there to buy; otherwise, it'll be a rabbit hole of endless wandering. If you want good stuff, go early. Wear sunscreen and shorts, no matter what the weather says; it always gets hot."

What's your secret to putting together a cool weekend look?
"Monochrome for simplicity. Sneakers for comfort. A chic color palette. Dunzo."

Weekend beauty motto: "If you don't have to hot-style your hair, give it a break! Go with the slightly messy look."
