Parenting in New York City can be, well, madness. Running errands; picking up groceries; even crossing the street can make you feel out of control when there are children screaming and crying and moving in all different directions. Welcome to the real world.
Danielle Guenther, a Hoboken, N.J.-based photographer, knows these struggles all too well. "You have to be on your toes in the city," she says of her own experience. "It's fast-paced, and if you can't multi-task on the street with your kids in tow, you're in trouble!" Guenther, who called New York City home for seven years (until her son was born) is now capturing the true chaos of raising children amidst the hustle and bustle of the city in her latest photo series, "Best Case Scenario."
"There's good and bad," Guenther tells us of the challenges of having a family in New York City. "For one, space is limited — everywhere. Things are more fast-paced, so you really have to plan things out far in advance. I feel like you really have to go with the flow in the city; most factors are very much out of your control, so you really have to improvise. But, most importantly, there are so many amazing things to do with your children... The good things far outweigh the bad."
Although these photos are staged, Guenther admits that these images are 100% reflective of situations she's faced: "During the shoot of 'Hold on a Sec' [pictured] the cabs were honking at us and everyone was annoyed... It made it feel real — rushed, chaotic, and at just the moment you can't handle the items [anymore], your husband will look over to check the score."
