Dior Wants You To Get Down With Granny Boots

Umm, can we talk about all the amazingness that's happening in these @dior heels? #diorcruise

What do you think of when you hear the words "granny boots"? Do you think of your ill-advised goth phase? Matchstick-pleat skirts? A general affinity for all things steampunk? If Dior maestro Raf Simons has anything to say about it, you'll be rethinking those associations this year.

Take, for instance, Dior's new cruise collection, shown Monday at the French Riviera's magical, Tatooine-like Palais Bulles. (Consider your Palm Springs locale officially one-upped, Louis Vuitton).

The show featured plenty of fluid maxi-dresses, drop-waist gowns that avoided being overly retro, and more pretty iterations on the minidress than you can shake a stick at.

Accessories were a standout — the house showed exotic-skin and embellished takes on the trend du jour, the bucket bag, that could tempt even die-hards away from Mansur Gavriel's wait list.

And then, there were those shoes. Save for a few flip-flops, almost every look was shown with a version of the granny boot. There were the high-heel ones pictured up top, and a lower, blocky-heeled version, like below.

The super-pointy toe and lacing at the instep made these way sexier than most garments linked with grannies. Illustrator Naomi Alessandra has already inked her ode to the  style.

Unlike some labels' runway accessories that never make it to retail, Dior has a history of producing some pretty outré pumps. So, we're holding out hope that these will actually be hitting stores (and maybe, just maybe, sample sales) eventually. Given the Internet's enthusiasm for them, Simons better hope to start making these before someone else does.
