Why The Returned Is The Show You Need To Get Hooked On

Full disclosure: We love TV. So much so that sometimes we'd rather spend a whole weekend in front of the tube than dancing in da club. Is a lack of television service holding you back from feeling our joy? No problem! You can get by just fine on Netflix, Hulu, and the myriad other streaming services rapidly taking over the home entertainment industry (thank you, Internet!).
Some shows are just better when binge-watched. Whether it's the latest BBC comedy, a PBS miniseries from the '70s, or just that cultish show prematurely scrubbed from a network, we're hooked on the stream. Staying In(stant) is your guide to the best of streaming content. Each week, we bring you a show we're obsessed with and think you should be, too.

This Week: The Returned. Think The Sixth Sense meets Lost, but way better than both.
Where To Watch: Netflix
How I Got Hooked: He likes Game Of Thrones and I'm a Homeland girl. He falls asleep to 30 Rock episodes, and I believe this is why Friends is on at least one channel at just about every hour of the evening.
That's right, my relationship was experiencing a common case of television incompatibility, and there was only one cure (and, unfortunately, it wasn't the genius that is Joey Tribbiani). We needed a new show — something we could both come to fresh and experience together — and we needed one fast.
How we decided on a French drama about a small town where long-dead people suddenly return to the community as if no time has passed was a matter of pure coincidence, as we both received recommendations from our respective best friends.
To be fair, I was skeptical of The Returned at first, since I normally tend to think that anything that has to do with undead is, well, uninteresting (sorry, fans of The Walking Dead). But, whether it was the terrifyingly eerie score or the matter-of-fact realistic tone, I was hooked after a mere 20 minutes into the first episode.
Best Episode: To pick one would really be a spoiler.
Why You'll Love It: For those of you having a quarter-life crisis, it's a great show to take comfort in. As you go through the series, you don't really know what's going on a lot of the time, and there's a lot you want answered. And, while you're trying to figure everything out and have all of your specific questions answered about what will come and why certain things are the way they are, at the end of the day (er, series), you'll realize the answers don't really matter so long as you enjoy the ride.
