Thank The Goddesses: Madonna Brings The Diva Look Back To The Red Carpet

For a certain stripe of woman, red carpet rules don’t apply to you. When your star is so big that you only need a first name, the sartorial kit that you can work from is a whole lot bigger. If you're Cher, you might show up in a two-foot-high feathered headpiece and a caged bra. If you're Bjork, your dress can be made of swan. If you’re Rihanna, #freethenipple isn’t just an Instagram hashtag. For Madonna, who oscillates between divine and diva, she chose to focus on the latter with this year’s Grammy look.  In a matador-meets-Annie Oakley ensemble with thigh-high PVC lace-up boots, matching fingerless gloves, veiled Montera hat, and ass harness, Madonna definitely put on the biggest display of peacocking in a sea of other gasp-inducing looks (seriously — this striped leg hair moment elicited less of a freak out from us than Madonna's get-up). Her outfit was a custom Givenchy haute couture by Riccardo Tisci original, which was a pretty big deal, considering Givenchy didn’t put on a haute couture collection this season.

This year’s look was definitely a cranked-up version of last year’s double-breasted Ralph Lauren number (complete with cane and and human offspring in a matching ensemble). Madonna is performing during tonight's Grammys awards, also in Givenchy haute couture.
