What Did Trump Mean By "Covfefe"? The Internet Weighs In

Just after midnight on Wednesday, something strange happened on Twitter. At 12:06 a.m. President Donald J. Trump sent a tweet. And we know what you're thinking, "He's always sending a damn tweet." However, this wasn't like the typical 140-character thoughts he shares with the world. This tweet in particular was just a clause with no context, an unfinished thought: "Despite the constant negative press covfefe."
"Covfefe"? What does that even mean? As soon as it was posted, Twitter users expected it to be promptly deleted. Or at least, deleted at some point. (Trump doesn't have the best track record with typos. Once it took him almost 90 minutes to fix the word "unpresidented.") But time kept passing and "covfefe" remained.

The most logical explanation was that Trump meant to type "coverage" and sent the tweet by accident. Hey, it's happened to the best of us.
But another theory still floated around: Maybe some White House aide snatched the phone out of Trump's hand?
In any case, the tweet quickly began trending and inevitably led to a barrage of reactions from night owls on Twitter.
For example, one user suggested Amy Adams reprise her role in the film Arrival and help us figure this one out.
Half the internet asked Merriam-Webster for an answer. The dictionary didn't have one, but still didn't miss an opportunity to shade the president.
Comedians like Jimmy Kimmel were heartbroken. How could you ever top "covfefe"?
Some were convinced that Trump had departed mid-tweet à la The Leftovers.
People that slept through the covfefe craze were nervous about it.
Lyrics of famous pop songs were rewritten.
And the most important question of the night was asked, "Where were you when covfefe?"
In the end, the tweet was deleted exactly six hours after it was posted. For some reason, Trump himself or his communications team decided to delete the tweet. (In this writer's opinion, the number of retweets could have potentially challenged The Chicken Nuggets Kid's record-breaking quest, but now we'll never know.)
Instead, Trump followed up the accidental masterpiece with, "Who can figure out the true meaning of "covfefe" ??? Enjoy!"
Long live covfefe. It was fun while it lasted.
