Is This The Future Of Fair Food?

What comes to mind when you think of county fairs? Other than screaming children and teenagers making out on Ferris wheels, artery-clogging food probably tops the list. But old standbys like funnel cakes, churros, and corn dogs apparently don't do the trick anymore. Every year, fairs seem more and more determined to add shock value to their menus. You're probably familiar with deep-fried Oreos, but this year the fair-food gods have truly outdone themselves. The new kids on the block in 2015 include deep-fried Starbucks and deep-fried peanut butter pickles, but our favorite newbie tops them all. As Eater reports, one vendor at the Orange County Fair wants to class things up a little by selling Twinkies topped with caviar — for $125. If that sounds right up your alley, Chicken Charlie's will be serving up the curious creation when the fair starts on July 17. If you're feeling extra adventurous, the booth is a one-stop shop for far-out fair food — its menu also includes bacon-wrapped zucchini sticks, deep-fried Spam, and deep-fried SlimFast bars. Hey, if nothing else, caviar-topped Twinkies bring a whole new interpretation to high-low style.
