In May, the attention on the singer shifted from her career to an outburst caught on tape at the Standard Hotel NY — an incident she dismissively refers to as "that thing." Following a public statement from her sister Beyoncé and brother-in-law Jay Z, the focus has finally returned to Solange's artistry, with a fresh perspective on her new life in New Orleans.
The incident, however, still rears its head in many a conversation, including her cover story. "What's important is that my family and I are all good. What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that," she told Lucky, nearly mirroring said statement with her comment.
Though Solange expects "that thing" to follow her for some time, she doesn't dwell on it — nor does she allow it to dominate her interview. Instead, we see a reptilian move in which she sheds the skin of "that girl from the elevator video" and shows us the style star we've always known her to be. (Us Weekly)
