Many of us might not be so psyched about going into the family biz, but that's because our great-grandfathers didn't launch a multi-billion-dollar publishing company that still boasts some of America's biggest fashion mastheads (Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, to name only a few). But for Amanda Hearst, the pressures of following in her family's footsteps may have been more welcoming than, say, becoming a doctor (that's right, dad, we failed science on purpose!). Luckily, Hearst's professional talents—and yes, style DNA—just happen to coincide with the company that shares her last name. And, no nepotism here, Hearst isn't resting on any laurels: She writes and blogs for Marie Claire , has a modeling contract with IMG, and somehow still has the time to advocate for a boatload of charities. And we're not talking dilettante (showing up, getting snapped, peacing out). Example? The upcoming October 5 The Humane Society Of The United States gala, which Hearst is chairing as part of her own non-profit, Friends of Finn , focuses on ending the inhumane treatment of dogs in puppy mills.
We chatted with Hearst about the event, and, of course, couldn't resist gleaning some style inspiration along the way. Enter our photographer who shot Amanda near her apartment in the West Village. Pairing a patterned dress with a brightly colored sweater, sky-high heels, and edged-out jewelry, or doing the super, super-luxe look courtesy of silk pants and a chunky cashmere turtleneck, Hearst gives off major Grace Kelly vibes. We're happy with our democracy, but if America had to have a princess, we'd salute this heiress.
