The votes are in and the finalists have been announced. Oh, you can bet we are all sorts of excited for this year's Vendy Awards, a competition that honors the city's top street-food vendors, pitted against one another in an epic showdown.
Street food is no amateur effort here in L.A., and this year's roundup of chosen eateries proves it. The offerings range from tacos and tortas to Indian curries, tostadas, and pozole to red velvet chocolate-chip pancakes (not a failure in punctuation!), blue-crab ceviche, and Mexican-style hotdogs. This ridiculously mouth-watering variety will be brought to you by foodie favorites Tacos el Gallito, India Jones Chow Truck, Karina's Food, Buttermilk Inc., Martha's Tamales Organicos, The Lime Truck, and El Palomo Hot Dogs.
Set to rumble in cook-off fashion, the seven finalists will take to their respective cooking surfaces at the Pan Pacific Park on June 24 to battle it out for the People's Choice Award and Vendy Cup. Snag your tickets before everyone's wise to what will surely be a happy-belly-happy-soul kind of afternoon. Ticket sales benefit L.A. City Farm, a non-profit organization that aims to make organic goods more available to SoCal communities. We'll see you there, food-lovin' friends.
