There's tall, dark, and handsome — and then there's Joe Manganiello. Does he look familiar? The babe, who is 6-foot-5, played werewolf Alcide Herveaux on True Blood. And yes, he also had a serious turn alongside Channing "Pony" Tatum in Magic Mike. Oh, and he made People's "Sexiest Men Alive" list. But, life hasn't always been full of sexy accolades — for nearly ten years, the actor battled both depression and addiction. “If you knew the way that I was, [my recovery] is a miracle,” he's said.
Fortunately, the actor was able to channel his experiences — both the positive and negative — into a new book, Evolution: The Cutting Edge Guide to Breaking Down Mental Walls and Building the Body You’ve Always Wanted. The book details the actual workout routines he did to get that crazy bod of his, plus ways to face your problems head on and take charge of your life. We give him a lot of credit here, especially since some of his tips include cutting out sugar and taking it easy on the alcohol. But, what's more impressive is the way Manganiello opens up about his difficulties with addiction, and even talks about the time when he was homeless. It's amazing to see the way that a creative outlet (acting, in this case) can alter the course of a life. Check out his full story, and prepare to feel inspired. (Splash)
