A decade ago, the Teen Choice Awards were a mess; a beautiful, insane, too-mid-aughts-to-handle mess. Rihanna showed up in the least Rihanna dress, ever; Ashley Olsen wore a minidress (and NOT an oversized coat and shades); Miley Cyrus did that whole silk camisole-over-jeans look you used to rock in middle school. Looking back, these outfits seem so bad, they're good. But really, they were a reflection of the styles and trends of a now bygone era.
Tonight, the 2016 TCA delivered just that: An example of what's popular today. From Gina Rodriguez's suit, to Maddie Ziegler's matching set, the red (er, turquoise) carpet let Generation Z (and a few non-teens, too) do their thing. The only question: Will we feel the same way about these outfits that we do about the ones from the 2000s? Let's check back in in 2026, shall we?
