Come Celebrate Women In Office (By Drinking With R29!)

Over the past 30 years, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of Democratic, pro-choice women to office in the United States. We're talking about more than 100 House representatives, 19 senators, 11 governors, and hundreds more to state and local offices. That calls for a drink.

And Refinery29 is here to help!

In New York City this Monday, September 28, join EMILY's List President Stephanie Schirock and Georgia House Minority Leader and 2014 EMILY's List Rising Star winner Stacey Abrams, pictured, for late-summer (okay, early-fall) Cocktails for Change. The R29 Politics team will be there, too, if you want to say hi!

Tickets are still available! Get them here.

"When we launched Refinery29's News & Politics section, we did it under the banner 'Our Party Is Women,'" says R29's Ben Reininga. "As we move into the 2016 election season, we are excited to continue to tell stories where powerful women are the protagonists. Because of that, there's no one we could be more excited to do an event with than EMILY's List."

Neha Gandhi, R29's VP of Editorial Strategy (who just sat down with Hillary Clinton!), agrees. "At the rate we're going, it would take 500 years to get equal representation in government for women, according to The Nation. That's unacceptable, and we have to support women seeking public office in this country, to accelerate that rate of change," she said.

"EMILY's List does an incredible job of that [for Democrats, although R29 supports women — and men who support women — across the political spectrum], and we're proud to co-host this NYC event with them. After all, 'our party is women.'"

Founded by 25 women in a basement in 1985 (sound familiar?), EMILY's list now has more than 3 million members working hard every day to put women in larger leadership roles in our nation's government.

With a presidential election on the horizon — EMILY supports Hillary, of course — it's more important than ever that we fight for our right to be represented.

Come! Help us celebrate women making our country a stronger, fuller, more diverse place.
