You’re Not The Only One Who’s Over Personal Style Blogs

We already know that it’s tough to make a living blogging and it’s even more difficult to break into the upper echelon — not everyone can be Bryan Boy or Susie Bubble, after all. But, the exclusiveness of the top tier isn't as surprising as the fact that there's less and less of an audience for that kind of content.
Racked reports that a new survey conducted by HerBlog of more than 1,500 users shows that most women would rather read about practically anything other than daily outfit tips. According to the poll, food is the most popular topic online, with 75% of women saying they like reading about eats. Recipes and meal inspiration are followed closely by health tips and DIY projects. Only 52% of women said they are interested in reading style blogs, which puts our sartorial sistren down in second-to-last place (barely beating entertainment posts, which came in at 49%).
Although the results are unexpected, especially given the sheer number of personal style blogs flooding the Internet these days, they also help explain the recent trend of ex-style bloggers branching out into lifestyle territory. Man Repeller's Leandra Medine, Cupcakes and Cashmere, and The Glamourai have all expanded their reach by covering food, travel, and culture, in addition to just fashion. Bottom line: If wannabe outfit bloggers really want to stand out, maybe it's time to take a cue from these success stories and move beyond the topic that first landed them online. (Racked)
