Mindy Kaling Absolutely Killed It In A Crop Top

Our first thoughts after seeing Mindy Kaling on the red carpet at the Paley Center last night were something like, "Man, she looks awesome." And, soon after, an instant message from R29 beauty editor Tara Rasmus popped up: "Mindy Kaling killed it in a crop top and has made me feel like everything is possible." We couldn't have said it better.
Let's put this out there right away: We'd never assume that the star of The Mindy Project can't, in any way, wear whatever she pleases. And, she's not the kind of lady who succumbs to those kind of notions either. No, Kaling is not a size 2 or 0 or whatever the "typical" size that may be associated with many young, female members of Hollywood. But, she's one of the first ladies breaking the mold, so to speak, and dominating the crop-top trend. Because, yes, this style is for everyone.

Especially over the past several seasons, the runways have been flooded with shirts that don't cover bellies. And, for any woman who's ever been intimidated by a sliver of exposed torso (this writer included), it's straight-up inspiring to see how Kaling effortlessly translated the trend for her own body shape. Sure, this Topshop combination works for her, but maybe a different cropped top would work for a woman who's a size 4. Or 14. Or 22. Mindy makes us feel like there's nothing that can stop us from trying it for ourselves. And, isn't that how it should be?
