Lady Gaga might say a bunch of cryptic stuff (that ARTPOP artist statement still has us reeling), but she's definitely not afraid to speak her mind.
"It is fair to write about the change in your magazines," she said during her acceptance speech at the
Glamour Women of the Year Awards. "But what I want to see is the change on your covers... When the covers change, that's when culture changes." Her sharp critique comes after Gaga covered the magazine's December issue looking almost too perfect in a shiny robe and an all-too familiar fashion pose. "I do not look like this when I wake up in the morning," and then referred to that evening's wacky white-washed look saying she, believe it or not, doesn't even look like that in the morning.
She went on to make a call to arms against the "forces that say you have to be beautiful." The damaging effects of covers like hers admittedly shape false perceptions of glamour and poise. The cacophony of airbrushing is nothing new, but having voices as big and as influential as Gaga's speaking out against it might be enough wind in the sails to get change started. (Huffington Post)
