Central Park is home to a number of artists trying to sell their work to passersby, and this weekend New Yorkers had a chance to pick up an original Banksy. The street artist is on a month-long residency in New York, and has promised a new piece of street art every day (the latest appearing in Queens). But, when the artist set up a booth with a frontman to sell his work — signed originals — only eight pieces sold. What's more, he charged just $60 per piece, resulting in a $420 profit (one customer negotiated the price down even further).

The still-anonymous artist posted a video of a man selling his art with the caption,
"Yesterday, I set up a stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $60 each." One customer picked up four pieces, but didn't realize what exactly he was purchasing:
"I just need something for the walls," he said.
Though we think the canvases are very recognizable as works by Banksy, we can understand how even those who are big fans of the artist would simply assume they were knockoffs. Yep, the artist has officially modified a truth we've lived by for quite some time: If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Unless it's a Banksy booth. (BBC)
