We love a good piece of snail mail, so when the new Madewell catalog arrived this week, it was a double treat. Featuring aspirational style star Caroline de Maigret, the fresh offerings from our old favorite somehow felt different — in a good way.
The brand's always delighted us with its quirky mix of colors and prints and use of stylish influencers — namely, Solange and Alexa Chung — but de Maigret stands in a league of her own. We could say it's her age (in her late '30s, she's a little older than the brand's usual face), but really, it's that the coolness of this music producer, mom, and muse transcends time.
Styled in the fall collection, de Maigret abides by a jeans-as-uniform type of wardrobe that uses bold colors thoughtfully, selects fits that slightly slouch — never cling — and accessorizes with lush, classic leather handbags and boots. Aptly titled "Wildly Simple," the new Madewell catalog feels like the brand has matured a bit, but that it's only gotten better with age. And that's a style message that speaks volumes.
