Brooklyn’s Hottest Shopping Block Revealed

atlantic-avenue-brooklyn-shopping-guide-main
Atlantic Avenue used to be the home of lots of great, old and crusty antiques stores, and thankfully, there are still a few. But lately a little strip of Brooklyn's Boerum Hill has become a smokin' hot-bed of cool new addresses, well worth more than a drive-by before you hot-step it to the Brooklyn Flea this summer. We focused on the particularly sweet stretch between Hoyt and Bond streets, and sussed out our favorite spots for getting the old-world neighborhood vibe in a new way.
1. Mile End: This Montreal Jewish deli has only been open a few months, and already there's a line out the door on weekends for their signature smoked meat hash, chazzers (egg and cheese with canadian bacon on pressed rye...yum!), and super strong Stumptown coffee. You can swing by for more than a hot minute—starting next month this delicious nook will be serving up dinner, too.

2. Mafalda: Well, all we can say is if you're into really, really good vintage, Mafaldais your new joint. Owner Christina Kolbe has the sharpest eye going (takes one to know one), and just this past weekend, we succumbed to a gorgeous red leather vintage Balmain bag for ($125), silk turquoise trousers ($68), and the most incredible floral mini dress you can imagine ($98). Danger, danger!

3. The Banquet: The lovely ladies of the boutique The Banquet recently changed their name and overhauled their stock. Lucky for you, you can still score lots of co-owner Pamela Johnston's pretty jewelry pieces under the name Plume, and co-owner Miranda Bennett's easy-elegant silk mini-dresses. Bonus-points: The duos second-hand finds, from mod furnishings and bizarre old books to vintage blazers.

4. Town & Country Antiques: Carrying on the street's rep for high-end furnishings, Town & Country offers something the other shops don't: Great value and honest-to-goodness one-of-a-kind treasures. Be warned, the space is teeny-tiny, but inside you can score things like a mint pair of Wegner chairs for not a lot of cash-money.

5. Très Belle Spa: After all your local retail therapy, book yourself a wee recharge at Allison Tray's darling slip of a spa. We recommend the brand-new, ultra-relaxing Duchess Marden facial, which uses clean-green, hydrating products, and the why-have-I-never-gotten-this-before lash tint. Your epidermis and Betty Boop-peepers will thank us.

6. Steven Alan: We were beyond psyched when our favorite local designer and retailer took over a handsome space right on Atlantic, and we're pretty sure his residency may have had just a lil' something to do with Barneys Co-Op coming to the block later this year. As much as we love Alan's Tribeca flagship, we dig this clever off-shoot for its well-picked jewelry, Rachel Comey sandals, and madras shirts for guys.
