5 Ultra-Flattering Makeup Looks Minimalists Will Love

Unicorn hair, holographic highlighter, and glitter everything may have been the runaway beauty trends of 2017, but as the saying goes, sometimes less is more.

Case in point? The gorgeously-simple makeup looks we've also seen go viral on Instagram and YouTube this year. For every duo-toned, jeweled eyeshadow look (which we're obsessing over as we prepare for holiday party season), there's yet another makeup artist wowing us with super-clean lines and flawless, glow-y skin. It's further proof that simple can be incredibly interesting, too. For example, a basic cat-eye flick and subtle highlighter done just right can be just as effective as a glittery smoky eye and crimson pout.

If you need a quick break from all the sparkles and rainbows that 2017 brought — or if you're dying to break out your favorite neutral palette once more before the end of the year, we've rounded up all the minimalist makeup inspiration you need right now.

From glowing, no-makeup makeup looks to a stark cat-eye, these tutorials make simple beauty easy — exactly how it's meant to be.

The Look: Sculpted No-Makeup Makeup

1. Dab concealer under your eyes and softly blend, then lightly contour the hollows of your face using contour a shade or two darker than your foundation. Blend with a wet sponge, then buff liquid foundation over any harsh lines with the same damp sponge.

2. Set your hard work with a little finishing powder only where you need it.

3. Fill in your brows and brush through to soften the color.

4. Dab on a hydrating lip balm for a final, no-fuss finish.

The Look: The Doe-Eyed Effect

1. Apply a warm neutral shade all over your lid, lightly bringing the color all the way up to the brow bone, then pat on a copper color over your crease, blending thoroughly. This will create a contoured eye look.

2. Layer a deeper copper color over your lid and crease and a shimmery champagne color into the inner corners of the eyes.

3. Trace a deep, chocolate brown liner along the top lash line and buff with a clean brush to soften the edges. Add the same liner onto the outer half of the bottom lash line and blend.

4. Apply mascara, a bit of blush or bronzer, and a neutral lip color.

The Look: Bright Eyes

1. Apply a light veil of foundation all over your face, then apply concealer under your eyes and anywhere else needed.

2. Using a color just slightly darker than your skin tone, softly sweep powder under your cheekbones, along your hairline, and under your jawline for a subtle contour. Top with bronzer for more impact, if desired.

3. Dust a soft, shimmery shade of Champagne shadow onto your lids, then add a soft brown hue into your crease. Smudge a darker shadow under your bottom lashes and into the lash line for depth.

4. Apply individual lashes, placing longer lashes on the outside and shorter ones closer to the inner corners of your eyes.

5. Sweep a cream highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes, along the top of your cheekbones, and other high points of the face like the bridge of your nose.

6. Dust blush onto the apples of your cheeks.

7. Dab a peachy pink lipstick onto lips.

3. Dust powder contour along your hairline, under your jawline, and in the hollows of the face. Next, sculpt your nose and forehead with a smaller brush using the same contour shade.

4. Apply highlighter to cheekbones and the high points of face, then swipe on some blush from the apples of your cheek to your temples in soft sweeping motions.

5. Set your work with a loose powder.

6. Apply mascara to your top and bottom lashes.
