The One Beauty Treatment Every Celebrity Regrets Doing

It's no surprise that most celebrities — especially those who grew up in front of the camera — have some fashion and beauty regrets in their closet. Being in the spotlight means experimenting with trends that fizzle fast, but are immortalized forever thanks to Getty images.

But even with the teased bangs and frosty blue shadow of the '80s, most celebrities agree that there's only one look that they really wish they could take back: over-plucked or bleached brows. The severe style (most popular in the '90s and '0s) affected everyone — from Jennifer Aniston and Gwen Stefani to younger stars like Kendall Jenner and Lucy Hale.

Ahead, 12 horror stories from your favorite tweezer-happy celebs — plus, how they finally undid the damage years later.

Kendall Jenner

Jenner wasn't born until 1995, but that doesn't mean she was immune to those teeny-tiny arches from the time. "When I was younger, on a totally weird whim, I plucked out all of my eyebrows!” the model wrote on her website. "Thankfully, they grew back, but my sisters flipped OUT."

As a model, she continues to subject her brows to torture tests. "I think the worst is when designers want to mess with my eyebrows... It always freaks me out because every time they do it, I lose them. They literally fall OUT! It's bad — I really hate getting a bleach," Jenner says.

Leighton Meester

We got to see Meester's arch evolution unfold before our eyes — and it's a good one. But that doesn't mean the former Gossip Girl star doesn't have her regrets. Back when the actress was starring on Making History, a show all about time travel, Seth Meyers asked her what time period she'd journey back to and her answer is painfully relatable: "Any time in my life that I could just like... change my eyebrows. Just like, high school. Too thin!"

Tori Spelling

Being on a hit TV show of the '90s can be unforgiving in many ways, but for Spelling, it all came down to her brows. The Beverly Hills 90210 star told E! News her biggest mistake: "I shouldn't have plucked my eyebrows so thin in the '90s." says Spelling, who's now a mom to five. "It was a big deal in the '90s! No one ever told me the brow would be back, and now the brow is back. It's something that, when you pluck, it's really hard to get back. Luckily, we have a product for that."

Jennifer Aniston

Besides "The Rachel," there's one other thing Aniston wishes she could take back: bleaching her eyebrows. While some of us can't get enough of the peroxide look, Aniston finds it cringe-worthy. She told Elle about her horrifying experience. "It was my first Cosmopolitan cover and Kevyn Aucoin was doing my makeup, and all of a sudden I had white foam on my eyebrows. It was a real look in the '90s, and it looks gorgeous if you're Linda Evangelista. I was so new and naïve in the business, I didn't know that I could say 'no.' I had to paint in my eyebrows for three months with brown shadow."

Nicole Richie

When you're young, using a razor to groom your brows seems logical. Only when you're rinsing half your brows down the drain do you realize it's not — and Richie knows that full well. When W asked the designer her biggest beauty blunder, she simply replied, "I wish I hadn’t shaved off my eyebrows when I was 13."

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Even supermodels go a little nuts with the tweezers — and Huntington-Whiteley is no exception. She told the DailyMail that she over-plucked her brow hairs so much, her modeling agency wouldn't let her go on casting calls until both brows grew back in.

Olivia Wilde

Wilde's story is one that will haunt us — and our brows — forever. "When I was 5, after watching my dad shave, I took his razor and shaved my face — including my eyebrows. You look like an alien without eyebrows,” Wilde told InStyle. “Then, in my mid-teens, I plucked them to create that sexy Kate Moss arch. I regret it because I damaged my follicles, and now it's hard for me to grow thick, bushy brows.”

Gwen Stefani

It looks like Aniston and Jenner aren't alone, because Stefani's beauty horror story has to do with a bowl of peroxide, too. When she was younger, the singer had to bleach her brows for a photoshoot and couldn't stand the grow-out process, so she took matters into her own hands. "I had gone to my parents' house in Anaheim and was like, ‘I’m done, I gotta dye them back. I can't deal with this now,'" she told Refinery29. "So I went down to some taqueria/salon — everything was closed and I couldn't get the product to do it back — and the woman goes, ‘Oh yeah, I can do it.’ She didn't really speak English and she put it on and it's burning, and I'm like, ‘I think it's burning!’ So she gets paper towels and scrapes and it's literally stinging like a tattoo into my face."

Stefani's mom took her to the emergency room where doctors told her the chemical burn was permanent. Miraculously, her brows grew back, but Stefani says she still has a scar from the experience.

Lucy Hale

We never expected Hale to have brow regrets. The actress might be brow goals now, but it wasn't always that way. The Pretty Little Liars star told Refinery29 that over-plucking was her vice when she was younger, but luckily all the hairs grew back eventually.

Kerry Washington

Out of everyone, Washington was the only one who regrets not grooming her brows sooner. "I waited so long to start doing my eyebrows. I think I was long graduated from college when people were kind of like, 'How 'bout those brows?'" Washington told Refinery29. "But then my mother was like, 'Once you start, you can't stop.' So then I was terrified, like, 'I don't want to have to go every month.'"

Demi Lovato

When it comes to evolutions, Lovato has had an epic one, namely with her famous arches. "My ultimate beauty regret is the many shapes and forms my eyebrows have come in," Lovato told us last year. "I've had stages where they’ve been so thick where people have asked if I got eyebrow extensions, and then so thin it looks like I just drew them on."

Before Zendaya was a frequent client to Hollywood's favorite brow guru, Kelley Baker, the actress experimented with less-than-stellar groomers, "I got my eyebrows waxed once, and they messed them all up — they were super-thin," she told Twist magazine. "It was the first day of middle school, and they were uneven! It was so bad. I had to let them grow out and [they] get super-hairy and thick."
