Soho House's It Girl Shows Off Her Posh Pregnancy Style

As one of the gatekeepers to the highly coveted Soho House membership, and the coordinator for many a major event at the cool club, she hobnobs with some of the biggest industry insiders in town (like her hot hubby, Justin Grey Stone, who happens to be a mega-manager at Untitled Entertainment).
Oh, and did we mention that Sam rocks her job at the House with a bun in the oven? Running around in Charlotte Olympia platforms all day long, this career gal has a never-barefoot-and-pregnant policy, and watching her strut her glowy stuff made us want to pick her brain on how to be a total babe while expecting. So, without further ado, we're sharing with you this blonde bombshell's tips and tricks for dressing a super-stylish bump…

Congratulations! When is your due date, and how have you been prepping?
"Thank you so much! I will be 6 months pregnant next Monday, and we are having a baby boy. Truth be told, I'm kind of a procrastinator, but I ultimately get everything done...and in time! We are doing construction on the baby's room next week, and I still have tons to do. One is to register, which I plan to do at Juvenile Shop. It’s a one-stop shop for all of the staples. We plan on spicing up the room with vintage Disney pieces – both Justin and I have a slight obsession with Disney. He proposed to me on the Jungle Cruise, so we intend to include some fun, inspirational things in there as well. There is a guy at the Rose Bowl flea market who sells some original Disney artwork, and we love adding to our collection.

I also downloaded the app for Baby Center on my iPhone, and look at it seriously every day. It gives great tips on what to expect, and includes a checklist of things to do. It's actually funny because the second you comment to someone on how your lower back starts to hurt, you will open the app and it will literally say 'today your lower back may start to hurt.' It's definitely one of the best resources. Other than that, I have realized that the greatest thing to do is keep lists. One of my girlfriends has the best lists for everything — from baby nurses to what to bring to the hospital, etc. My sister-in-law, who is also my best friend, has a to-do of what to register for, so I plan on paying that forward!"

What are the ultimate style tips you would give someone else who's expecting?
"I would say to mix and match inexpensive items with your nicer pieces. Whitley Kros, All Saints, and J. Crew have great shirts that you can easily dress up by throwing your hair back in a ponytail with a cute necklace. Stay true to your style. There is no reason to stop dressing cute just because you are a little bigger. Belts are a definite must! When in doubt, try belting it! You don’t want to look like a tent when you start to show. Basically, you don’t want to be the girl that people say 'is she pregnant or did she just drink too much beer?' Another tip, obviously depending on the person, is to keep on going! Don’t stop having fun, setting dinner dates, and having people over. My husband and I stay busy, busy, busy. 'Cause, why not?"

What would you say your preggers style "don'ts" are?
"Many of the tops I've been wearing lately are still pre-pregnancy pieces that are just more snug now. If anything, I stay away from anything that is short. I have found that wearing things that are longer makes your torso look longer. I actually can’t stop buying pieces with stripes, and while usually, horizontal stripes aren't flattering, I can’t get enough. I am OBSESSED with these tops called Shai Shai —I live in them! I have two in every color because you can wear them under anything, or just as a regular tank. They grow with your pregnancy, so you can wear them before, during, and after. Now that I think about it, obsessed may be an understatement. Ha!

J. Crew has fabulous flats, and Madewell has amazing little booties that are at a good price point — you can wear them all day, and they give you a little bit of height without killing your back."

How do you manage to be six months along and still do so much?
"I hang with people all day long. My job isn't the 'typical' office job. Plus, between both my husband’s career and mine, we have lots of evening commitments, so I only tend to wear heels on days when I know I have to look a little more dressed up. I always keep a pair of flats in my purse so I can take the heels off when nobody is looking. It’s all about smoke and mirrors.Ha!"

Where do you shop for all of your super-posh pieces?
"I am, and always have been, someone who picks up random pieces everywhere. I will go to Barneys and Forever 21 in the same day. You can find things that fit you at both places without having to go to a maternity store. I will say, however, that maternity pants and leggings are an absolute must! Pea In The Pod is the best store to get some designer maternity jeans, and some chill leggings that you can run around town in. Zara has some fabulous things, too. They always have great dresses and jackets in every color and size."

What do you miss most about your pre-preggers days, when it comes to getting dressed?
"I really don’t miss wearing much. I love rocking a belly! Even colorful jeans can now be found at ASOS Maternity, so you arent missing out on too much.

I embrace my belly, so I try to wear very fitted tops so people don’t mistake me for a house! I appreciate the cut of a jacket. How it fits makes the biggest difference in everything. All Saints has some amazing leather jackets that look so fantastic with a relaxed top. Just throw on your maternity leggings, a Shai Shai tank, an All Saints leather jacket, a pair of TOMS shoes, and a scarf, and, bam!"

Have you gone wild on any purchases recently?
"One of my closest girlfriends is due four weeks before me, and we love to get ourselves into trouble with the boys by buying things well in advance (don't tell!). Fred Segal had a 50% off sale and we went crazy! If you find something you love, then get it! Why not? People keep telling me to wait for gifts, but I simply can’t help myself. I am obsessed with the cute little suspenders and Splendid for boys. Etsy actually has some amazingly cute little things for boys. They even have pacifiers with fake mustaches! We got one for someone as a gift, and it was a big hit."

What is your mantra these days?
"The hardest thing about being pregnant is reminding yourself that you aren't Superwoman! I always say, I could be pregnant for the rest of my life, and it's true! I love it. But, on the flip side, you need to remind yourself that you can’t do it all. I'm still working on that one. I would say the biggest challenge though, is not going on the rides at Disneyland. You can still eat almost everything you did before — and if you can't — then just get creative! Instead of getting a spicy tuna roll, get an avocado roll. Once you dip it into soy sauce, you are fulfilling your craving."

Speaking of, what have been your biggest cravings?
"I have the most cliché cravings maybe ever. I love burritos, pickles, cantaloupe, and Humphrey’s frozen yogurt. I've stocked my freezer with vanilla and chocolate sprinkles...mmmmmm. I came home one day to a cantaloupe and two jars of pickles with bows on them from my husband. It was the best ever!"

What has changed the most since you got your happy news?
"My daily routine has only changed a little bit. I was actually never a breakfast person, and now I wake up starving! Our pantry is stocked with bars, and our fridge is stocked with eggs at all times. The most time-consuming part of my morning has for sure becoming lathering on cocoa butter! I found this amazing Vaseline cocoa butter at Target that I swear by. And the best part about my routine is when my amazing husband says goodbye to my belly every morning. It makes for such an amazing start to our day."

What do you think is the biggest pregnancy myth?
"The whole 'you’re glowing' thing is real, I guess. People tell me that all the time. I'm not sure if that’s because I wear Copacabana by NARS on my cheeks every day, or I really am! I feel fantastic, though. And, when you feel great, you carry yourself well, I guess. It’s the second I start to get tired that I need to crawl in a hole. I would say to stick with your same regimen you had been doing since before you were pregnant. Don’t get facials, if you never did. Do get things that make you feel pretty. Do get a good bronzer so you don’t look pale on days that you arent feeling so hot. I promise, it makes a world of difference. And don’t forget to get a mani/pedi – it will change your whole day!"

What's the hardest part about dressing while expecting?
"Dressing for evening gets tricky. As it is, I always veer toward a more casual vibe rather than going too dressy. I have found several amazing evening dresses that aren't meant for maternity — Kova and T has a great one at Urban Outfitters that has an empire waist. And Madewell has fabulous, fun dresses that you can throw on a pair of tights, and wear with short boots or heels. With a little lipstick and mascara, you feel great!

I find that there are definitely days when I wake up and feel like I can’t find anything that fits, so I ultimately throw on a vintage J. Crew T-shirt with a chunky necklace, a pair of dark jeans, and a blazer, and call it a day. It's form fitting, so everyone sees you rocking the belly, and the blazer dresses it up."

What are your plans for your wardrobe after you pop that little munchkin out?
"After my pregnancy, I plan to keep my key things for maternity wear because I plan on having a few more babies! I will also loan things out to my girlfriends who are pregnant. Even when I buy something now, I say to my friends, you can wear this to that wedding you have, too! We are all in it together!"

Where are you, mentally, as far as accepting how much your life will be changing soon?
"I guess everyone feels differently when it comes to being pregnant. I am very fortunate to be feeling good, minus the nausea I had in my first three months. I'm lucky to have my mom join Justin and me at our doctor’s appointments, which is always such a blessing. And, I have incredible friends who are honest and tell me when something looks great, or is a total throw-away! Overall, being pregnant is a true miracle, and we cannot be any more excited to bring this little baby boy into the world! In the meantime, I'll just dress up and have fun!"
