Back in 2012, it was reported that the average New York City wedding cost $76,687 — which was a whopping $48,000 higher than the national average. So why would anyone in their right mind ever choose to get hitched in one of the most expensive cities in the world?

Well, for starters, no one says you have to spend a fortune to have a truly memorable New York wedding. In fact, some of our favorite couples tied the knot at City Hall. Then there's the idea that the city's nit and grit — and its hustle and bustle — can actually make your big day's photos better rather than cluttering them. And, well, we can't think of a more inspiring backdrop than New York — with its stunning parks, historic sites, and skyscrapers — for one of the most important days of your life.

Still not convinced a city wedding is a good idea? We've rounded up 17 excellent reasons to consider it — and only a few of them involve the amazing views!
