New Shop Convent Brings Goth Glam To The LES

convent-boutique-new-york
When we picture convents, we tend to think of nuns and rosaries, not Rick Owens. But brand-new LES boutique Convent is changing up our word associations big-time with a selection of merch that makes Oak look tame. Owner Travis Wayne is something of a nomad—at just 25 he's worked everywhere from Copenhagen to Florida, at one point assisting Patti Wilson on campaigns like Akris and Alberta Ferretti. After a stint doing the wholesale thing, he decided to push the boundaries with his progressive shop, bringing a much-needed injection of goth-glam to a 'hood that's gentrifying faster than you can say "Where'd the bodegas go?" Rihanna, Gaga, and Adam Lambert would feel right at home browsing torture-devices-cum-sunglasses from a-morir, riding leggings from Malu, and particularly bold Cheap Monday cutout tanks. While we're not gonna lie and say we have to have everything, we're always game for a couple of pieces that could amp up our alterna-look a couple of notches.
