It seems that 140,000 films, 10 million photos, 42,000 original film posters, 10,000 production drawings, and countless costumes and props are currently at the fingertips of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Yes, those folks who Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow, and many others thank on Oscar night hold claim to a serious amount of cinema swag.
With that, the Academy has just announced that in conjunction with Girard-Perregaux, it will source its extensive archives to create a public museum which will open its doors in 2016. Netflix can only offer so many classics, which is why we'll be signing up for a membership, ASAP!

Located in the historic Wilshire May Company building (the one on the corner of Fairfax Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard with the gold facade), and designed by architects Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali, the new galleries and theaters are sure to attract film buffs from far and wide. We're already daydreaming about wall-to-wall displays of rare footage, behind-the-scenes snaps, and legendary threads — the mind reels thinking about the endless exhibit possibilities!
We've already bookmarked the date in our iCals, but to help pass the time 'til 2016, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for future Girard-Perregaux ads and campaigns which will feature iconic images from the Academy's photo bank. It looks like Old Hollywood glam is back in a big way!
