Imagine a land where “visionary women rule, and fresh, new design is law.” Sounds pretty wonderful, wouldn't you say? Introducing Maiden Nation, a new online marketplace that emphasizes female empowerment through ethical fashion.
Designer and entrepreneur Elizabeth Schaeffer Brown, whose first business endeavor grew into the highly praised Choose Haiti, teamed up with Willa Shalit and Juliana Um of Fairwinds Trading to create Maiden Nation.
The brand-new company produces bracelets — with plans to expand to other jewelry categories and giftables — by women designers and artisans from around the world. Everything is ethically sourced, meaning the products are made in safe work environments, and the creators are paid fairly. Best of all, the sales profits are reinvested in women’s entrepreneurship projects, so the good karma keeps going 'round and 'round.
With all this positive juju in the air, it's no wonder that powerful, inspiring, and interesting women around the globe are joining the cause. Maiden Nation's newest campaign, Imagination 365, features jewelry designed by Yoko Ono, Gloria Steinem, Lauren Bush, Rachel Roy, and others. Ono's gold and black cuffs feature the phrase "Imagine Peace," while Steinem's beaded trios read "Imagine" and "We are linked not ranked."
