There's no getting around it, Halloween is here. While the official holiday doesn't happen for another five days, L.A.'s spirit is already in high gear with spooky sweets and crazy-chic jack-o'-lanterns. And, it's about time you finally settled on a costume (Cleopatra or Tippi Hedren, tough call!), because this weekend is chock-full of celebrations.
The first on deck is the 13th Annual Día de Los Muertos Festival at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. As if the legendary resting grounds weren't creepy enough, this year's event will honor the Mayan gods, rituals, and calendar. Winning the costume contest is pretty much everyone's MO, in addition to witnessing the 100+ meticulously crafted altars and spiritual shrines that are erected each and every year. There will be live performances, art and crafts courtesy of LACMA, and tons of fare from our town's best food vendors — all for just $10 (free for kids 5 and under before 4 p.m.!).
