Fashion Plates: The Perfect Outfit for Rubirosa

Comfort and sophistication aren't exactly the best of bedfellows, but every once in a while the two get together and beget the perfect offspring. In this case, the baby's name is Rubirosa, a newly-opened Italian eatery in Nolita that's sure to give Lombardis a run for its money. Brought to you by father and son team Angelo (an alum of Esca and Osteria del Circo) and Giuseppe (of much-loved Staten Island pizza joint Pat & Joe's) Pappalardo, along with none other than infamous Beatrice Inn doorman Angelo Bianchi, and former Olana chef Al Di Meglio, Rubirosa attracts an exhalation of the club-hopping, hipster crowd from just-round-the-corner Kenmare, plus a steady stream of Beatrice expats who long for the glory days. Though it's undoubtedly a hotspot in its own right, Rubirosa has a chiller, more homey atmosphere that's perfect for digging into a perfectly crisped arugula pizza with cherry tomatoes, parmesan, and balsamic vinegar. The vibe? Equal parts rustic and understated Italian glamour, à la Porfirio Rubirosa, from whom the pizzeria takes it's name, the Dominican playboy who romanced the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Veronica Lake, and Kim Novak in the '40s and '50s. With it's warm olive interior, softly glowing lighting, and mix of rich light and dark woods, Rubirosa feels like an Italian grandmother's cozy kitchen given a serious style upgrade. So, take a break from shimmying to Passion Pit's The Reeling and downing endless vodka sodas, order yourself a glass of Chianti and some spaghetti and meatballs, and feel yourself get all warm and fuzzy inside.

When it comes to your ensemble, we want you to go with the flow. In keeping with the laid-back yet classically elegant feel, throw on a chunky knit cape that's dramatic and crazy comfy, and pair it with super-tight black skinnies to balance out the proportions. Italian leather riding boots in a gorgeous shade of camel provide some tonal contrast and give your feet a still-stylish break from heels. Add a killer earthy quartz ring, a burgundy structured bag, and a swipe of berry lip gloss to round out the look. We won't blame you if you sneak to Kenmare for a nightcap.
