Help One Super-Talented Designer Make It To Fashion Week

It's not hard to argue that Fashion Week is a tough place to catch a break. Creating a cohesive, imaginative collection that's also sellable is difficult enough, but you also have to attract the right editors, sell to the right buyers, and weave the right story with your garments. And, don't think that all you need to make this happen is a wave of Anna Wintour's wand — it takes a lot of time, connections, and cash to even arrive at the tents.
But, if you've got the talent, then the help should come. We've recently fallen in love with New Orleans-based designer Amanda deLeon, who's hoping to put on her first-ever presentation during this February's New York Fashion Week. Her collection — as you can see in the slideshow ahead — is already on pace with the rest of the crowd. The darkly seductive, goth-gone-schoolgirl pieces are stellar and full of the kinds of irresistible personality we love seeing in up-and-coming designers.
However, to get there, she needs a little cash behind her. DeLeon has set up a Kickstarter to raise the money to fund the unromantic parts of her very romantic collection (you know, insurance costs, equipment rentals, etc). So far, she's raised $1,152 of her $7,500 goal, and there are 10 days left to go. Click through the slideshow for a little preview, and then venture onward to the Kickstarter to find out more. And — fingers crossed! — we'll see her in our backyards come February.
