Exclusive: The Story Behind This Dior Jacket & Your New Favorite Film

More than two years later, we're still savoring the memories of Raf Simons' first haute couture collection for Dior. For many of us who were lucky enough to be there, it's become one of our favorite fashion moments. In case you're not privy to the inner workings of the Dior atelier, they're depicted in Dior and I, a documentary that made its rounds on the film-festival circuit early last year. A profound look at how a modern-day genius creates his art, and the staff that helps get him there, it's coming to U.S. theaters April 10. And, we've got the exclusive official image tied to its release. The image showcases a Dior "Bar" suit, which was a staple of the New Look wardrobe first introduced by Christian Dior in 1947. Featuring a row of buttons, a shawl collar, and an impossibly small nipped-in waist to create an exaggerated hourglass, it was meant for barside cocktail parties. For the couture collection, Simons showed modern interpretations of the Bar jacket, including gowns, strapless tunics, and jewel-encrusted jackets. The jacket in the promo image has been sprayed with paint for a nod to the Sterling Ruby print that made a splash in the collection. Dior and I director Frédéric Tcheng says about that moment: "When it happened, it was completely a spur-of-the-moment, improvised, jazzy, fun thing. It was a turning point for Raf and his team.
