If you're in the camp that thinks New Year's Eve is the worst holiday ever, you're not alone. Despite being on hiatus until February of next year, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver couldn't help but give his two cents on the overrated, overhyped tradition.
"New Year's Eve is like the death of a pet," he told a studio audience in a video posted to YouTube Sunday night. "You know it's going to happen, but somehow you're never prepared for how truly awful it is."
Oliver goes on to explain just what makes December 31st so dreadful. "It combines three of the least pleasant things known to mankind: Forced interaction with strangers; being drunk, cold and tired; and having to stare at Ryan Seacrest for five solid minutes, waiting for him to tell you what the time is."

If you want to know how to get out of whatever unwanted plans you may have — or, as Oliver asks "Do you really want to sit on your friends' sofa and watch hummus turn brown all night?" — watch the video below.
Oh, and see you in the new year, Mr. Oliver. We can hardly wait.
