Woman’s Selfies Lead To Shoplifting Arrest

Today in Crimes of Fashion: A 27-year-old Illinois woman was arrested for shoplifting from a local store after uploading images of her haul to Facebook. Mortie’s Boutique co-owner, Kert Williams, told WSIL TV that Danielle Saxton “stole a very distinct leopard dress…a couple [of] shirts, [and] some jewelry.” In fact, he passed Saxton on the sidewalk with her loot and said: “Her excuse was there was nobody in here. We were in the back working, and that she could just take it. You know, not really much of an excuse there.” Not really, no.
He looked at Mortie’s security footage and posted about the theft on Facebook; meanwhile, Saxton had shared pictures of her wearing the “distinct leopard dress.” It didn’t take long for the police to apprehend her (as Jezebel notes, West Frankfort has a population of less than 10,000). Anyway, Danielle, getting caught on social networks is so démodé. Pretending you’re a celebrity stylist and racking up thousands of dollars in designer clothing? That’s where it’s at.
