Donna Tartt's Putting A Pulitzer On It — The Goldfinch Wins Big

A major congratulations is in order for Donna Tartt. The best-selling author (and Refinery29 favorite) has been awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
Her third novel, The Goldfinch, has been heralded by critics, including Stephen King, who raved it is "a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade." The massive book tells a story of adolescent discovery, and how one boy's relationship with a Dutch masterpiece impacted the rest of his life. Sure, it's long, but as we pointed out in our own book-club review, the 700 pages fly by.
Tartt's narrative challenges the reader to meditate on love and its often convoluted connection with fine art. Plus, with NYC as the backdrop, the epic tale offers a fresh perspective on life in this crazy city.
Tartt didn't have to put a bird on the cover to make it cool. But, throwing a Pulitzer tag on the front just confirms what we already knew — this book is a must-read. (USA Today)
