Just In Time For The Met Ball, Watch This Model's Gender-Bending Transformation Into Sid & Nancy

We know, we know: punk is a lifestyle, not a fashion trend. We hear you.
Obviously, though, since punk is largely about individuality, the looks it inspires are eye-catching enough to stay on our radars for, well, decades. When it comes to the appropriation of the punk aesthetic, it's totally a hit or miss situation — we had enough of mall-bought studded belts in the early aughts, thank you. But sometimes, just sometimes, someone who really knows about punk does something so right that it authentically updates what we picture when we hear that word. Makeup artist Robin Black, the mastermind behind the blog Beauty Is Boring, may very well be that person, and we've got an exclusive video that proves it.

We were more than sold on Black's artistic genius when we saw the final pics of this shoot, in which she made up one model as both Sid and Nancy (our minds = blown), but listening to her talk about it sealed the deal — her personal punk influences (she counts Poly Styrene, Ari Up, Lydia Lunch, and Soo Catwoman as some of her favorite punk female icons) and smart analysis of just why punk is so stylish are legit. These makeup looks really do embody the shunning of cultural expectations that keeps punk rebellious — especially the makeup on "Sid." An androgynous, edgy, badass way to wear makeup? We're so into it.
Black did the shoot just in time for tonight's punk-themed Met Gala, but we're hoping to see looks like these well past the event. Check out the video, and let us know what you think. (Beauty Is Boring)
