Now, we aren't saying this isn't just a marketing ploy sponsored by an enterprising pen company, and we aren't critiquing the quirky gifts exchanged by couples, but perhaps — just perhaps — after becoming the old standby gift for dads, grads, and the consolation for a breakup a la Say Anything, giving pens to your significant other might not be the greatest call.
For her 23rd birthday, RPatz gave KStew a pen. Of course, not any ol' ballpoint: He gave her a limited-edition, Tibaldi Bentley Crewe fountain pen valued at $46K. According to the leak, she collects pens, so this seems like a thoughtful gesture. The Twilight duo drape themselves in a (glittery) shroud of vampiric mystery, so who knows their dynamics and how pen-friendly they might be? (Certainly not the media, who has struggled to keep these two camera-shy stars in the tabloids despite little bait.) But, like, didn't Lloyd Dobler forever ban the gifting of pens between lovers? Isn't that the ultimate lament of "I gave her my heart, she gave me a pen"? Did we just write this to make endless John Cusack references? (Coco Perez)
