Remembering Former NYC Mayor Ed Koch

No matter your opinion of the sometimes controversial (but always passionate) Ed Koch, there's no arguing the fact that he was a true New York City legend. Whether he was pulling us out of financial crisis, or simply speaking his mind on Bloomberg radio, he was always the Big Apple's number one fan. As Mayor Bloomberg said in his remarks this morning, "When we were down, Ed Koch picked us up. When we were worried, he gave us confidence. When someone needed a good kick in the rear, he gave it to them — and, if you remember, he enjoyed it."

Even though Koch ended his tenure as Mayor in 1989, he never ended his work as a champion for America's largest city and its many citizens. "His legacy is all around us, in all five boroughs," said Bloomberg. "I think it's fair to say that no retired elected official in the history of the world remained more involved, more vocal, and more relevant than Edward I. Koch." Tell us: How will you remember his legacy? (New York Magazine)
