These Ladies Turned Out The Looks For The BET Awards Red Carpet

Ask anyone, and they'll likely say the red carpet is truly the best part of any awards show. The outfits, the sometimes-awkward but always enlightening interview questions, and the fact that we aren't stuck waiting three or four hours for something exciting to happen means that the pre-show is almost always better than the actual show.

And, that’s especially true when it comes to the BET Awards. Though not as formal as, say, the Oscars or the Golden Globes, we can always count on the BET Awards to serve up some serious style from Beyoncé, Gabrielle Union, Rihanna, and more, sprinkling some #BlackGirlMagic all over the show (and into our lives).

While Beyoncé likely won’t be in attendance (she may or may not have popped out the twins!), we're still looking forward to seeing our favorite celebrities in music, acting, and sports bring out some seriously unconventional looks. We’re also still taking bets on who will Best Female Artist and what they’ll wear when they hit the stage, but in the meantime, we'll settle with these killer red carpet looks ahead.

Functional and fashionable; we like the way Yara Shahidi thinks.

Jonathan Simkhai dress.
Chloe and Halle serve up a lesson on how to coordinate in style. Just check those shoes.
Justine Skye told red carpet host Amanda Seales that when she chose tonight’s look, she tried to shoot for the stars. This sparkly number does just that (and way more).

The Blonds dress.
White is daring enough, but an all-white pantsuit? Dascha Polanco shut this whole situation down.

Bishme R. Cromartie suit.
We're very much here for the summer power blazer. Thank you, Sierra McClain.
At just 15, Skai Jackson is already a red carpet pro. We love the cut, color, and print of this Just Cavalli dress.
It isn’t a secret we were excited to see what Cardi B would wear to this evening's event, and let's just say we were quite pleased with this red Givenchy pantsuit (and accompanying blunt blond wig).
Our first reaction to Dear White People’s Logan Browning's look was, "Where's the ice skates?" But that doesn't mean we're not totally obsessed with this feathered number. Too cute.

Leilou dress, Loriblu shoes.
We could make an Awkward joke here, but Issa Rae looks anything but. Obviously.

Balmain dress.
So many are afraid to get too matchy-matchy with their looks. Girls Trip actress Regina Hall totally ignored that, styling her bright blue gown with coordinating eyeliner. And you know what? She shut it down.
Black-ish’s Marsai Martin has to be the chicest 12-year-old around. This Missoni dress checks all the boxes.
Jada Pinkett Smith. In Alexandre Vauthier. Done and done.
A black-based gown with a thigh-high slit? LeToya Luckett shows how to actually make florals feel groundbreaking.

Bad Butterfly dress.
Though not as daring as some of her other red carpet looks, we like the simplicity of Karrueche Tran's purple dress. And we love those sparkly heels.
Remy Ma and her husband, Papoose, walked the baby blue carpet in matching outfits for the culture. That’s Black love at its finest.
The Queen in the reigning silhouette of summer (off-the-shoulder, of course).
