TV Shows That Have Handled Incest Over The Years (Yep, They Went There)

TV shows are increasingly keeping their love stories in the family.

Yep. While incest is not something that most of us want to think about, a surprising amount of shows (*cough* Game of Thrones) have dared to "go there" by including romances between siblings or other related characters. While some shows included these hookups to highlight the weirdness of the world, others did so for pure comedy. Clearly, these series know what makes an audience squirm — and that's a brother and sister hooking up.

Can we ever ship couples we know share a healthy dose of DNA? That's a whole other can of worms.

Pretty Little Liars

Yep, a Freeform show totally included an incest plot point. When Charlotte (Vanessa Ray) revealed that she was the villainous A, she also revealed something else: She was Jason (Drew Van Acker) and Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) long-lost sibling. The problem? Jason and Charlotte dated in high school!

Who says siblings can't have sexual tension? FX's strange new series Taboo doesn't show half-siblings Zilpha (Oona Chaplin) and James (Tom Hardy) actual hooking up, but their smoldering eye contact and body language suggests they may want to. Taboo, indeed.

Game Of Thrones

Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei's (Lena Headey) forbidden love is terrible for so many reasons (Jaime pushes a child out a window in the very first episode to keep their romance a secret) but let's put that aside and discuss the fact that these two are twins.

Arrested Development

George Michael (Michael Cera) goes through nearly the entire series of Arrested Development trying to shut down his feelings for his cousin Maeby (Alia Shawkat). The two kiss, then feel terrible about it — and then realize that they're not actually related because Maeby's mom was adopted.

The Brady Bunch

Okay, okay — so technically, this didn't really happen on the beloved family sitcom. The parody film A Very Brady Sequel referenced the sexual tension between Marcia and Greg by having the step-siblings kiss. Still, it's a pretty hilarious "What if?"

Boone (Ian Somerhalder) tried to keep his feelings for his (somewhat sociopathic) step-sister Shannon (Maggie Grace) locked down, but when she went to his house to seduce him, he couldn't resist.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Things are always pretty weird in this sitcom's version of the City of Brotherly Love. Meet the McPoyles: a family very proud of their incestuous heritage as it keeps their bloodline "pure" and "clean." As for viewers, we're just uncomfortable.
