We jubilantly reported back in April that our L.A. love affair with the Vena Cava chicas would no longer have to play the waiting game since their hiatus, and last night we were finally able to raise a glass to their handmade fall prints' re-emergence on the racks (Barneys, to be exact) and relocation to L.A. GenArt wined and dined their "Fresh Faces in Fashion" alums (and us) at a poolside Chateau party that rivaled almost every shindig we've attended this season. St. Vincent was on the mic, Tennessee Thomas helmed the turntables, and sharply dressed ladies and gents (including longtime fans like Sophia Bush, Binki Shapiro, Langley Fox Hemingway, and Malin Ackerman) reveled in the brand's success.
It was one of those raucous reunions that will go down in the books, and social butterflies floated around Bungalow One both bumping into old pals and forging new creative connections. Amidst the happy welcome-back-to-town madness, we took the opportunity to quickly catch up with the radiant Sophie Buhai to get the scoop on where she and Ms. Mayock are headed next. How has the Vena Cava girl evolved over the years?
"She's still elegant, cool, and original! She's grown up a bit, but still wears army jackets over evening gowns and vintage leather jackets to the opera."

What was your mantra when getting this new collection off the ground?
"Neo-noir! We watched a ton of films of the genre, and were really feeling the strong female characters that were both elegant and dark. Faye Dunaway was on the brain."

What's your most memorable moment of the whole GenArt experience so many years ago?
"Sewing most of the collection ourselves on Lisa's floor in Greenpoint."

Do you ever foresee an L.A. boutique in your futures, since it is home after all?
"Yes! We dream of a store in LA ... maybe it could be in a glass tree house in Griffith Park. We have lots up our sleeves, making a horror movie with Red Bucket Films, and we just designed our first band T-shirt with St. Vincent!"
