Don the Verb is the Lower East Side boutique for those in the know, so a lightly publicized showing at the Hotel on Rivington naturally drew some of fashion's most daring dressers. Stylists in Margiela and downtown kids in vintage mingled at tables or by the bar, where the oddly-designed runway stretched throughout the entirety of THOR. Though Don the Verb also sells vintage, Hanna Astrom and Yanina Landsaat started the house collection in 2007. For fall '09, Astrom and Landsaat stuck to a muted color palette of blacks and graphites with shots of red. There were unique reinterpretations of popular trends, like a sleek silk dressing gown or a dark red mohair sweater with strong shoulders. But what sets Don the Verb apart is that extra dose of unnerving strangeness, like a little sack purse with grapes, which looked almost eerie or comical (we can't decide!) carried with a leather dress and calf-length cut-out shoes. And though we're sick of drop-crotch pants and refuse to buy into the trend, Astrom and Landsaat's black silk pair with origami detailing was so cool that we might consider giving in.
