Pollution Could Be Wreaking Havoc On Your Skin

We've always known the negative effects air pollution can have on the planet, our bodies, and overall health. But, according to an article from Teen Vogue, it might also be wreaking havoc on our skin. The kind of pollutant the magazine specifically discusses is particle pollution, which is the smog and exhaust gas that linger in the air — something city dwellers are all too familiar with. This eventually makes its way onto our faces.
Teen Vogue consulted Dr. Tom Mammone, the executive director of skin physiology and pharmacology of Clinique's R&D team, who has been performing tests on artificial skin. "We just did a study in Germany that looked at people who lived in high-pollution areas, and we were able to show that there was a significant increase in hyperpigmentation and aging of the skin there," he says. "We have similar data in other cities of the world." Which is obviously very upsetting news to hear if you, like us, live in a heavily populated city where these particles are pretty much unavoidable.
However, there are some precautions you can take. Urban dweller or not, everyone should head over to Teen Vogue to read more and learn how you can start protecting your skin for the future. (Teen Vogue)
