Fly Girls: Our Guide To Traveling In Style

Dressing for the airplane is nearly as harrowing as dressing for a trip to the great outdoors, but instead of wildlife, the elements, and isolation, you have to battle those dammed metal detectors, disorienting temperature changes, and spontaneous nap attacks. Being prepared for airplane travel doesn't mean you have to look like a college freshman in the middle of Finals. There are ways to maintain a level of sophistication while being able to snuggle up in your window seat. These are three rules we live by when we fly—here's to ditching the tracksuit and traveling in style!
Go Long—Dresses might seem pretty impractical on a plane, but maxi-dresses can be the perfect warm-weather travel piece. Tuck your legs up when it gets frigid, or hike the skirt up if you're warm. Pair with a structured cardigan, a roomy bag, and zip-off sandals.

Reinvent The Basics—Cargo pants and a hoodie can look put-together if you find them in flattering and fashionable cuts. Slip-on booties and a chic weekender tie it all together.

Your BFF, The Scarf—Tuck it under your chin for an impromptu nap, wrap it around your shoulders in case you're stuck in a chilly cabin, or stuff it in your bag if it gets hot. Stretch-fit jeans, loose tops, and comfortable flats make tarmac-stomping a fly affair.
