How are we going to fill up our morning link posts without inspiring city bloggers like Viva Fashion’s Carmen Ordonez? Think about it. In an effort to make our dreams come true, we asked Ordonez to share her expert advice on creating a successful fashion blog. Write About What You're Passionate About
“Blogging every day is a huge commitment — especially when it’s not your day job. But if you’re writing about something you love, blogging will come easily. That's the only way to find the energy you need to make your blog a success.”

What’s In A Name?
“Choosing a name for your blog is probably one of the most important — and toughest — parts of starting a blog. I went through so many names until I finally came up with Viva Fashion. I knew I wanted it to represent my Hispanic background, so I was looking for a mix of Spanish and English words, which is how Viva Fashion (or Live Fashion) came about. If you're having a hard time coming up with a name, try jotting down some of your favorite words and then pairing them together.”

Be Consistent
“Do your best to post regularly. If your readers can’t depend on you posting every day at the same times, they’re probably not going to come back. It’s like having an unreliable friend. Also, try to have original and unique content. Write about things you know your readers won’t be able to get anywhere else. This will help set you apart.”

Learn to be Design Savvy
“Try to keep the layout of your blog simple and organized. Having too much going on can be distracting. You want your readers to be able to find what they are looking for, easily. I personally love a white background with black text.”

“If you're going to be photographing your own outfits, make sure the pictures are high quality and visually appealing. You don't want to post anything that's too blurry or unfocused. I know an iPhone is convenient, but you might want to purchase a camera with a good lens. I recently invested in a DSLR and it's made all the difference in my pictures.”
“Making your own collages also adds a fun touch to your blog. I currently use Photoshop, but you can also try Picnik for free. If you're new to Photoshop, the fab blogger over at Design Love Fest offers a photoshop class just for bloggers called Blogshop. Her layouts are absolutely amazing.”

Be Socially Active
“It goes without saying that being socially active is very important to building your blog. Some great ways to do this are by setting up a Facebook fan page or Twitter handle for your blog, as well as leaving comments on other blogs you admire, and also doing some guest blogging.”

Make Friends With Other Local Bloggers
“Find other bloggers near you, and consider meeting up with them for coffee. It's a great way to share ideas and get advice. Also, follow other bloggers you admire on Twitter. Remember, it’s not a competition. It’s about building community.”

Be Patient
“Sadly, blogging success doesn’t come overnight. So it’s important to be patient and stay motivated. After three years of blogging I’ve recently had some amazing brand collaboration opportunities with brands like JC Penny and Banana Republic. But it took a lot of time to get there. It’s always a work in progress. So don’t give up!”

Be Yourself
“A blog is such an amazing platform to express your ideas and inspirations, so don’t be afraid to be yourself. Let your own voice shine through in your posts. It's what makes you special!”
