The Best Song To Motivate You This Week

The right music can make or break your workout. That's why we tapped some of the best instructors, trainers, and DJs to curate the perfect soundtrack for every session.
This Week: Dara Hartman of Brooklyn Bodyburn
When Taylor Swift is telling us to “Shake It Off,” we can't help but want to drop our weights and follow her cue instead of doing another round of deadlifts. While it’s great to exercise to a song you love, sometimes you need to just get lost in the rhythm of your workout — not wrapped up in singing along.
That’s why we love the remix-heavy playlist from Dara Hartman, instructor at Brooklyn Bodyburn. The studio's classes focus on the MegaFormer Pilates machine, a.k.a. the most wonderful form of torture. It will leave every muscle — from your inner thighs to your abs — shaking within minutes.

“This workout is really intense,” Hartman says, “so having something to listen to while taking a class is key. We focus on moving slow, with continuous resistance, working each body part to fatigue before moving on.” This makes creating a playlist more challenging than just picking from Billboard’s top 40. You need to find music that is energetic, but won’t leave you wanting to rush through each exercise.
Hartman loves integrating EDM remixes into her classes, and her track picks below are pretty impressive. Our favorite? “Games (Passion Pit Remix)” by Claire. “It’s cool and inviting," Hartman explains. "I love the color of her voice; the steady, mantra-like sound of the chorus definitely helps you to move slow.”
Game, set, sweat.
