Ditch The Sleeves: How To Wear Fall’s Best Vests

Fall is famous for its in-between, Indian-summer-meets-premature-winter temps. And sometimes, that makes dressing for the weather near-impossible. But, instead of bemoaning the difficulties of our favorite season, or suggesting you bring a heavy coat everything on the off chance it'll be chilly in an hour, we took cues from the runways and took a closer look at the so-versatile vest.
Whether structured or puffer (they're ba-ack), the vest can work as the perfect transitional piece, pairing with lighter layers when the sun’s still a-shinin’ and then adding easily over thick sweaters and boot as the mercury takes a nosedive. Styling possibilities abound!

The Style: Fuzzy
As seen at: Altuzarra fall '12 runway
Instead of your faux fur coat, try out a super-luxe fuzzy vest. Choosing black gives you endless styling options, but we’d advocate keeping things simple with over-the-knee boots, a punch of print on the sleeves, and one statement accessory. Voilà!

Topshop Tassel Hem Faux Fur Gilet, $110, available at Topshop; Orla Kiely Fox Fairisle Flared Dress, $345, available at Orla Kiely; ASOS Jewelled Spike Bracelet, $17.25, available at ASOS; Alexander Wang Sofia boot, $895, available at Alexander Wang.

The Style: Puffer

You don’t need to hit the slopes to work the puffer vest; try the look on for size as an alternative to your ski jacket. A simple black turtleneck and leather leggings function as a not-so-basic foundation for the look. Keep the rest fuss-free. Ankle booties and a cross-body bag? Check and check.

Moncler Ghany, $525, available at Moncler; Jean Paul Gaultier Long Sleeve Pull Over, $357, available at Farfetch; Forever 21 Platform Booties, $29.80, available at Forever 21; H&M Pants, $34.95, available at H&M; Dooney & Bourke Small Pocket Crossbody Bag, $168, available at Lord & Taylor.
