Bruce Jenner & Scott Disick Have A Heart-To-Heart About The “Big Secret”

Ed note: In his interview with Diane Sawyer, Bruce Jenner said he identifies as a woman and wants to continue using male pronouns. It's our policy to call everyone by the pronouns they prefer, and so until Jenner tells us differently, we'll use "he" and "his" in our coverage.

Bruce Jenner has seen an outpouring of support from across the world — but it’s fair to say that nothing has been more healing in this process than the love and care from his own family. Kris, Kendall, Kylie, and the rest of the Kardashian clan have made it clear that they’re behind the former Olympian completely, even as they navigate their own difficult emotional journeys. But, there’s one person who Bruce was clearly concerned would have a tough time coming around to his big secret: son-in-law Scott Disick. The pair sat down for a heart-to-heart on last night’s special episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and admitted that they hadn’t been especially close over the years. “My whole life I haven’t been honest with myself, I haven’t been honest with my kids,” Bruce told Scott, adding that it was tough all these years to be surrounded by women when he was struggling with his own identity. “It’s the big secret that nobody could talk about.” Kourtney’s longtime partner and her step-dad haven’t always stood on common ground — but it was wonderful to see Scott step up to the plate on this issue and even drop the veil for a moment and reveal his heartfelt emotions.  “I felt like for so many years, you know, me and you had a big disconnect and if I would have had any idea of some of the things that you were struggling with, I wouldn’t have been so insecure about why we couldn’t get along properly, sometimes,” Scott told Bruce during their one-on-one conversation. For his part, Bruce acknowledged that sometimes the two weren’t synched up — but it seems like that might all be in the past. That doesn’t mean that Scott suddenly ditched his signature goofy commentary: His first question for Bruce was whether or not he was going to be “super butch-y” since he’s into so many “guy sports.”  “I will still have a good time,” Bruce says, smiling good-naturedly. “Why would I want to give up all the fun stuff?” All funny business aside, it’s clear that Scott is solidly on Team Bruce. “You could do a lot of good and help a lot of people who want to be able to come out and say this that can’t,” the reality star said after complimenting his in-law on his public speaking skills. At the end of the chat, he told the camera: “Bruce is going to open the door for so many people who are finally going to be able to live their life the way they want to.”
