Congrats to Shailene Woodley on winning the Trailblazer Award at tonight's MTV Movie Awards (previous winners include Emma Stone, Emma Watson, and Channing Tatum — a motley crew, but good company, no matter). It's a well-deserved honor, too. Between her compelling performances (The Descendents, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, Insurgent), down-to-earth personality, and charming honesty there's a whole lot to love about her. Sure, she's shared some thoughts (particularly about feminism) that were ultimately disappointing, but we don't hold grudges.
And, in addition to being a badass both on and off the screen, Woodley has offered up some pretty powerful words over the years. Thoughts and opinions that have motivated us and — we'd imagine — other women who hear them. On the red carpet and in magazine and TV interviews, Woodley has inspired us to live fully and wisely time and again. She sets the bar pretty high. So, in light of her very recent and well-deserved win for Best Actress at the MTV awards, we want to reflect on those glorious moments. Here are eight times Shailene Woodley has encouraged us to own who we are.
