Why Is This Hollywood Legend Dissing Taylor Swift?

And, contestants on The Voice are probably pretty psyched to have a music-biz heavyweight like Taylor Swift helping them out. After all, she's an industry dynamo who knows how to keep fans engaged in her music and whip them into a frenzy when she's got a new album coming out.

One Hollywood legend is excited for Swift, but she also took the announcement as the opportunity to throw some major shade.

Yes, Bette Midler has officially joined the group of famous women who mock Taylor Swift. Remember when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did it at the Golden Globes? They warned Swift to stay away from Michael J. Fox's son, a reference to T-Swizzle's much-discussed dating history and her relationship with Conor Kennedy. Although insulting, that reference was at least slightly topical.

Midler's slam comes out of left field, especially considering Swift is on a dating hiatus while she promotes her new album. Plus, Taylor Swift 2.0 is all about feminism and supporting other women in their endeavors. Midler's comment, while intended as a joke, feels especially mean-spirited when cast in a feminist light.

It actually doesn't matter what people Bette Midler thinks, because Taylor Swift has already risen above it all. She also has an indirect message for the haters in the November issue of FASHION magazine : "You should not be threatened by women who are pretty and charismatic and good at what they do."
