Thom Browne & Other Top Designers Are Dressing The NYC Ballet

Ballerinas in Thom Browne? We approve. The New York City Ballet is going high fashion for its annual fall gala — and in a big way. The star-studded event, which takes place on September 23 at Lincoln Center, will feature highly anticipated premieres by the likes of contemporary choreographers Justin Peck, Liam Scarlett, and Troy Schumacher, partnered with some seriously enviable couture costumes.
Peck, who was named “the third important choreographer to have emerged in classical ballet this century,” by New York Times’ critic Alastair Macaulay, will see his dancers pirouette in costumes by the queen of prints, Mary Katrantzou. Scarlett will work with Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton, and Schumacher with American avant-garde designer Thom Browne.
The ballet and the fashion industry have long had a special relationship — last year, Prabal Gurung, Olivier Theyskens, and Iris van Herpen brought their talents to the stage, setting the bar extremely high for this year's batch of designers. But, if their runway success is any indication of their costumes, it's pretty obvious they're not going to disappoint. (Fashionista)
